Port Campbell National Park’s short lookouts deliver huge visual payoff for relatively low walking cost. The GOW is for people who want immersion, kilometres and planning — not a substitute for the Apostles boardwalk if you only have ninety minutes.

Sample-day mindset

A good sample day proves three things: (1) your fitness matches coastal grades, (2) your group can navigate and turn around, (3) you enjoy longer walking enough to book a real multi-day later. Pick one published section, protect daylight, and write a debrief: what hurt, what worked, what you would pack next time.

Transport is the silent killer of sample days. If you cannot solve the finish trailhead, choose a return walk or a different day — do not invent an illegal or unsafe shortcut to “make the logistics work.”

Lookouts first, GOW second

If this is your first Shipwreck Coast visit, do the Apostles → Loch Ard → western lookout education first. You learn the wind, the soft cliffs and the parking culture cheaply. Then decide if multi-day walking is the next chapter or a different holiday.
